You've planned for your new baby for months, making sure every detail from the nursery to the car seat and everything in between is ready for your new bundle.
After all, those grainy iconic black-and-white ultrasound photos you've been staring at for months are about to be transformed into beautiful heirloom portrait artwork that you'll cherish forever. EEK! We can’t wait to meet your baby and document all ten tiny fingers and ten tiny toes for you.
So what is the ideal timeframe to schedule your newborn photography session? Here are some things to consider!
Plan Your Newborn Photography Session Early
Planning ahead for your newborn photography session is key, and while it might seem unusual to plan for photos while you still have a bump, this is the perfect time you should start planning. Ideally, parents should schedule a newborn photo session during the second or early third trimester to ensure you are on our calendar. And while we know that can change (spoiler alert, babies don't usually follow a schedule), you're at least top of our mind when your baby does arrive.
What Happens When Your Baby is Born
We obviously LOVE babies and are so excited for you and your family. Once your baby arrives, we don't expect it to be your first call in the hospital (but feel free to send us pics!). Enjoy those first precious moments with your baby and soak it all in. Adjust to your life with your new little bundle and contact us when you arrive home to schedule your session.
Photographing Your Newborn at Two Weeks Old
If you've been researching newborn photography, you've probably seen swoon-worthy images of babies in impossibly cute snuggly positions, but you've probably also noticed something else—they're usually sleeping.
Although open-eyed shots are just as precious, if you love the look of a sleeping newborn, anytime from birth to about 15 days is ideal, as they typically spend most of their time snoozing, and posing them is easier.
Book Your Photographer As Early As Possible
While it’s true there’s no deadline when it comes to newborn photos, and all stages are worth capturing. Your baby’s flexibility and comfort will be at their peak, allowing us to create those precious, timeless photographs. Here are three reasons why it’s important to book your newborn photography early.
1. Tiny features - Newborns change incredibly fast and babies are born with precious delicate features you don’t want to miss preserving.
2. Flexibility - Newborns are incredibly flexible and in the early days it’s at its highest. Because of this, it’s easier to pose them in all those adorable poses such as the most requested beloved froggy pose.
3. Minimal Distractions - In the first couple weeks of a baby’s life, newborns are not yet fully aware of their surroundings, so they're less likely to be distracted by lights, noises, or movements.
